Just over a month ago HP announced they would close up shop for their WebOS division. Which included their newly launched tablet the Touchpad. Shortly after the announcement HP instructed retailers to slash prices to $99 and $149 for their 16 and 32gb models respectively. Within hours tablets started flying off shelves and soon started selling out online. Within a couple days online retailers were sold out everywhere. The one place that seemed to have any glimpse of hope to get a touchpad was well.. HP themselves. The catch was the prices were still sitting at MSRP of $499 and $599. Many brave souls placed their orders and crossed their fingers as they waited and hoped that their prices would be corrected and their orders would ship. Many followed along on tweets from HP, others followed forums such as redflagdeals.com looking for some reassurance that their new toy would one day arrive at their doorstep. As days passed frustration increased as patience decreased especially the ones who ordered from HP shopping. As weeks passed HP started releasing more information about the status of the orders, information about how certain models would not ship until almost 3 weeks later so the wait continued.
Last week HP went into overdrive and shipped out an enormous batch of orders which by now have most likely fulfilled all orders! Since then the forums have slowed down, people are happy, satisfied, relieved and await for the next great deal.
I was one of those individuals who sat on the side who observed the madness that was the HP touchpad. I didn’t know if my order would ship but was hopeful. Earlier this week I received a phone call from Purolator and now with a big smile on my face I’ll let you guess where I’m posting this from
